“SUMI NOTOKI” by Nikko, the Western-style dinnerware manufacturer, won the first place in the License Collaboration category of the international competition “Tableware International Award of Excellence 2018”. Among 219 entries for 16 categories from over 100 companies around the world, Nikko was the only Japanese company that received the award.

“SUMI NO TOKI” is a new collection of dinnerware combining Japanese and Western beauty, designed by Hiroko Koshino.
Created based on the Sumi ink work by Hiroko Koshino, it expresses Japanese sense of “space” in the blank space, using the energy and sharpness of the original work as well as the drip and flow of Sumi ink and paints.

The jury commented that the collection “appeals to modern consumers with its perfect shape and drawings by highly technical transfer paper. It is the result of the perfect collaboration between Nikko and Hiroko Koshino. Artistic, variable drawings will add a special touch to the dining scene and bring art and enjoyment to the modern-day home”.

“SUMI NO TOKI” series are available on Nikko’s online shop.
How about adding them to your tableware collection?

KH Gallery Ginza Hiroko Koshino — Homage to Klimt

Info
2018.02.23

We will hold an exhibition entitled "Hiroko Koshino — Homage to Klimt" at KH Gallery Ginza. Gustav Klimt was born in 1862. He was a painter in Vienna from the late 1800s to the 1900s. Known for his decorative works depicting a variety of women, including nudes and pregnant women, his distinctive gold works incorporate the traditional art forms of Egypt and Japan. It is said that his avant-garde ideas were controversial at the time. Koshino was overwhelmed by the Klimt paintings she encountered in Vienna and felt emotionally connected to his sensitivity to anticipate the new era and his life. As a fashion designer and an artist, Koshino was inspired by Klimt, attempting a variety of expressions from 2013 to today. This exhibition will showcase "WORK #1078 Blue Bird of Happiness", one of the largest works of her which she created in 2013, for the first time in five years. It also features a collection of a wide range of expressive paintings, such as works that take advantage of textiles designed for Hiroko Koshino Collection, as well as works using India ink and Japanese paper, and works that allow the viewer to enjoy deep color changes and profound materials. Her most recent work, created on the occasion of appearance on a special Klimt episode of the NHK program "Nichiyo Bijutsukan" broadcast in January 2018, will also be exhibited.

Klimt pursued his own sense of beauty without being caught up in trends and common ideas of the time. We hope you will enjoy Koshino Hiroko's innovative expression, which responds across time to Klimt's spirit.

At KH Gallery Ashiya in 2018, you can see an exhibition titled "Hiroko Koshino Kira — Brilliance of the East and West —," a shimmering world of fusion between the East and West, focusing on a collection of works and paintings by Hiroko Koshino. Koshino strives to create new beauty by bringing modernity to Japanese traditional culture, based on her experience spreading unique fashion from Japan to the world. This attitude is common to both her art and her fashion.()
The "ki" in "Kira" refers to twill weave, while the "ra" means thin-weave silk fabric. The word represents beautiful clothing and the people who wear it. The installation of ornately colored paintings and clothing is reminiscent of a gathering of elegant people. Enjoy the seasonal atmosphere throughout the transition from winter to spring and on to summer.()
