Hiroko Koshino presented the 2020 spring/summer collection at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, on Tuesday, October 15.
This season’s theme is “Play Around the Music.”
With the live performance by the pianist Yukio Yokoyama, Koshino presented 56 creations inspired by the silhouettes of musical instruments. The special runaway was installed close to the audience, which allowed them to see the detailed designs under the bright sunlight. Fashion and music harmonized during this artistic moment. We would like to thank all those who attended the show.
Hiroko Koshino will appear as a guest commentator on The Profiler, an NHK BS historical entertainment program that profiles various people from different countries and times, such as legendary heroes and great people that changed the world, based on unknown stories and the latest study.
This episode focuses on Yodo-dono. She has been infamous for being an evil woman who destroyed the Toyotomi family which Hideyoshi established alone, or an evil mother who overprotected her son, but the latest study shows other views. The program will unravel the life of Yodo-dono who lived for “love” by confronting powerful authority, sacrificing herself to protect her family, and paving her own path after the death of Hideyoshi. Hiroko Koshino gave a talk at the CARATO71 Project which explores and supports young brands and holds various projects such as workshops.
Under the theme of “Future fashion business seen by Hiroko Koshino,” Koshino talked about the history and initiative behind the “Hiroko Koshino Fashion Show GET YOUR STYLE!” held in June 2019, which gained attention for using 100 amateur models in their 10s–90s.
“Fashion is not only about beautiful models dressed stylishly. Real fashion is closer to people. Everyone has the right to enjoy fashion. This fashion show featured models of various shapes and ages, and everyone was delighted,” she said. She also talked about the business development after the fashion show and suggested how the business should be in the future. We would like to thank all those who attended.
Hiroko Koshino designed the uniforms of the Japanese gymnastics team for the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships which will start on Friday, October 4, 2019 in Stuttgart, Germany.
The concepts of the men’s uniform are “mountain” and “river.”
The ink smudge in the character “mountain” represents speed, as if running at a full speed, and energy soaring higher. The torrent-like brush stroke of the character “river” represents dramatic dynamism and dignified strength, with vigor like that of anadromous fish that go against the current.
The concepts of the women’s uniform are “Kumadori (kabuki make-up) ” and “light”.
The red color of Kumadori is said to represent justice, strength and courage, and the shining Swarovski crystals add gentleness to the strength. Swarovski crystals are also used abundantly to create “light” in the flowing layers of curves.
The World Championships are an important milestone on the way to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Please check out the excellent performance of Japanese gymnasts and the uniforms that support them!
